Hydrogen Power Generator Update

We are happy to share that our hydrogen-electric energy system’s first months of operation on board the Offshore Supply Vessel Coastal Liberty have been a great success!

In February 2024, the vessel received its class certification from DNV after being refitted with our cutting-edge hydrogen power generation system. This enables Coastal Liberty to operate without producing any Hashtag#emissions, using a combination of hydrogen and batteries.

Over two years of hardworking, eCap Marine developed & engineered this containerised power generation system with two Ballard Power Systems FCwave fuel cell systems (2x200kW), Lehmann Marine GmbH’s battery system, custom power management, cooling, Hashtag#safety, and fire extinguishing systems. The benefits to the vessel’s crew include reduced vibrations and a more responsive propulsion system.

Green hydrogen is produced locally in Hashtag#Cuxhaven, Germany, utilizing offshore wind power for the hydrogen electrolysis plant, a few kilometres from the vessel’s berth. This hydrogen-production facility has been established simultaneously with our project by our partner Ingenion GmbH.

Handling the 10ft hydrogen tank systems developed for this project is easy and Hashtag#safe, taking only a few minutes, thanks to the toolless design and standard connections for cranes and trucks.

This lighthouse project proves that Hashtag#emission-free maritime technology is feasible and scalable for the future of shipping. We're proud to contribute to a greener maritime industry!
